During my lifetime, my eating habits have gone from fantastic (when my mother still cooked everything for me), to not great (in high school I started eating out a lot between dance practices), to practically heinous (let’s just say, college was hard on my diet), to slowly improving (Mike and I are trying to cook more and keep it healthy). Learning to cook for myself has been an uphill battle, not because my mother didn’t teach me; she’s an amazing cook and always likes my help in the kitchen. But when left to my own devises I prefer to bake sweet treats rather than cook substantial meals. I blame a lot of my poor habits on being a poor college kid and living off of buttered noodles for quite some time.
Even now, eating healthy is not always my go-to mainly because of the price increase. Seriously, why is the trash food always the cheapest?! (rhetorical question, obviously I know why.) But I am beginning to learn how to balance my diet and what works for my body and what doesn’t. I think I just needed a little help finding healthy meals I can make that won’t break the bank.
Without further ado, I want to introduce you to a little pal of mine that is a saving grace.
Meet Eat This Much.
Eat This Much is a website and app that allows you to take full control of your diet. It can help you plan meals, track calorie intake and still keep it all within your budget. How? Well let me explain.
As you make a profile, the app will ask you for some information like weight, meal complexity, food specifications, and monetary budget.
My meal complexity is set to “Simple” because, let’s be real, I’m not applying for Chopped anytime soon. There is an option to select if you have specific diet needs. For instance mine is set to vegetarian and I have the option to still include fish or shellfish if I wished. They have options for vegan, gluten-free and more.
And for those of us that are cautious with our money, you can set a budget! You can set a price limit on how much you are willing to spend for each day’s meals. Hooray for never overpaying for groceries again!
One of my favorite things about this app is that if you are trying to lose weight, you can enter your current weight, the weight you want to achieve, and either set a time frame in which to lose the weight or set how many lbs a week you wish to lose. It will then calculate your daily intake of carbs, fat and protein, and adjust your meals accordingly.
And voila! Eat This Much will start planning out each of your meals for you. It shows each day on it’s own screen, with specific servings for each item. You can even change how many meals you typically eat in a given day. It has up to 9 as a possibility! You can save plans that you like, tell it to use a certain food item or meal again, and regenerate a random meal plan whenever you are ready for the next one. You can also add your own recipes and meals to make your own meal plan. There are literally a million different customizable items within this app, I swear you could get lost in it.
The app is free, but there is a premium version that allows you to access a grocery list for the week with all of your ingredients, a weekly layout, and a leftovers setting.
This app is seriously the coolest thing and since it’s free there’s really no excuse not to try it! And since it remembers you from your account information you can access it on any device and all of your settings will still be in place.
