Unless you’ve been living under a rock, (or you’re in a different country) you’re probably aware that the East Coast of the US is currently experiencing a massive blizzard and millions of people are snowed in, and have been for days. Thankfully, Raleigh, being on the southern end of blizzard, didn’t get hit too badly by the bad weather. We did have some ice that canceled work for a few days, but nothing compared to the multiple feet of snow coming down in some areas.
However, since I did get stranded in my house for a few days, one of them we didn’t have power, I decided to put together my list of snow day essentials to make your time spent at home even more cozy. Now obviously, food and clean drinking water are the most important snow day essentials, but I think most people know that they should stock up on food before bad weather, and I don’t need to reiterate that. This is purely to have fun.
1 // If you have to spend all day inside, might as well make it smell wonderful. Now is the perfect time to finish using some of those old Christmas candles or maybe find a new favorite scent (Bath and Body Works has a bunch of great ones on Sale right now). Plus, if the power goes out, having the a lit candle near by will certainly be handy.
2 // Obviously if you have candles, you need something to light them with. And you’d be surprised all the things you end up needing matches for once the power goes out (hint, hint : gas ovens don’t light themselves).
3 // Give me all the blankets! Nothing is better than getting cozy under a fuzzy, soft blanket and watching it snow (or sleet, whatever). I have this one from Target in Navy and it is my favorite. I usually keep it on my bed, but I may or may not have worn it like a cape all day around my house.
4 // LITERALLY THE BEST THING TO EVER EXIST. That is not an overstatement. I got these as an early Christmas gift and ended up getting them for my sister in law as well because I’ve never loved a pair of socks so much. The SOFTEST socks in the world, but also the warmest that I own. Perfect replacement for bedroom slippers. AND you can buy them BOGO right now! I think I should probably buy just a couple more pairs…
5 // I’m totally on board with this whole adult coloring book fad. I don’t know why it wasn’t a thing already. Though I have to admit, being a creative person, I felt silly ignoring my own art and coloring instead, but I do like that I don’t have to think about it as much when I color.
6 // You should always be reading a couple of books, in my opinion. One can never read too much. And having some classics around will not only make you feel super accomplished with your day off, guaranteed you’ll feel super inspired afterwards as well.
7 // That being said, why not do some writing of your own. You’ve got plenty of time to sit and daydream and ponder life, so why not write down a few things you want to remember. Plus, Antho has some really cute notebooks, (I own the Quaintrelle notebook) so this will be a diary you’ll want to show off.
8 // One of my favorite things to do when I have some extra time is to give myself a mini manicure. I’m wearing this purple/grey by L’oreal right now and love it for this icy weather.
9 // Can someone explain to me why face masks are so fun? Maybe it’s the thought that we are doing something good for our skin and in these dry winter months, no doubt our skin is struggling a bit. Here’s to no make up days and clean, healthy skin!
10 // While we are taking care of our skin, don’t forget your lips too! This stuff never leaves my nightstand and cures chapped lips in an instant! Perfect for this season.
So there you have it, my recommended snow day essentials that will hopefully keep your body and mind from going too stir crazy. And even if you don’t have these items for this snow storm, I highly doubt this will be our last storm this year.
Stay warm! And enjoy this extra time off with loved ones.
