One of my high school dreams was fulfilled this week. I was able to watch Ben Gibbard (lead singer of Death Cab for Cutie) play an acoustic set after hosting a viewing of the movie Slacker. All of this took place on the lawn outside the North Carolina Museum of Art and was put on by the Modern School of Film.

Slacker is a great film that resonates with me on so many levels. I saw personas of real people that I know and see daily. The point of the film is to focus on the life of 20 something year olds in the 90’s, and I believe that it still holds a lot of truths for the 20 year olds of this current generation. I’ve seen bits of it for a film class many years back, but I’m so happy I finally saw it in its entirety.
Ben Gibbard was also phenomenal. Every song he played was a wave of nostalgia and youth. The words and melodies that come out of that man’s mind are astounding.
Fall is already upon us and it was quite chilly, but Mike and I cuddled under my old Anthro blanket (that I specifically bought to keep at his house some time last year) and just sat back and took it all in. What a beautiful night to be watching the sun set while sipping wine with my love and then to listen to my high school idol play songs from my growing up years while looking up at the stars.
This is happiness for sure.
