When Mike and I first started dating, neither one of us were very good cooks. It’s something we’ve been trying to work on these last few years and I’ve found that I enjoy cooking more when there is someone doing it with me. In my opinion, cooking is not a solo act.

When you cook together, there is talking, laughter, music, occasional mishaps, and a rewarding meal you both get to enjoy together. You learn a lot about the other person, like if they get frustrated with themselves, if they have patience of steel, and if they can be a team player. You also learn not so significant traits, like if they dance around the kitchen more than they cook, or if they can make amazing guacamole. All important things to know.
Our date nights usually consist of an activity of sorts. I believe that’s why we clicked so quickly at the beginning of our relationship. You need date nights where you actually get to know your significant other, not just sit beside them in a movie (though I do enjoy a trip to the cinema from time to time).

Some of my favorite date ideas:
» Cooking together / Grocery shop for your ingredients together as well.
» Hiking / Maybe it’s because I love to take Radley hiking that it was only natural to include Mike as well.
» Take a Long Walk / Pick up coffee and scroll through the neighborhood, especially before it gets too cold.
» Take a Tour of Your City / Like the tourist-y kind. You’ll learn something new and feel like you’ve traveled somewhere together.
» Day Trip to the Beach / We live 2 hours from the coast, so it’s still doable for a day trip.
» Teach Each Other a Hobby / Maybe you like to paint and he likes to play guitar. Have him teach you some chords and the next date you can teach him some painting tricks. Two dates in one!
» Go to a Festival / Whether it’s a music festival or cultural festival, a place you can walk around and enjoy together is perfect.
» Go Bowling / Everyone looks silly when they bowl, but that’ll give you something to laugh about.
» Roam a Used Bookstore / Read excerpts to each other and go on a hunt for your favorite books.
» Just Sit and Talk / One of my favorite things it just to talk to Mike. Too many couples are interested in their phones these days. Put the phone down, go to a coffee shop, and talk for a few hours.
I wrote a post quite a while ago about why you should keep dating your significant other, because finding that connection and maintaining it is so important to the health of any relationship.

I would love to hear some other fun date ideas that you have tried or want to try!
