My eyelashes are naturally blonde, so here are my lashes with one coat of mascara on them.
I don’t know about you, but one of the first things I notice about someone is their eyes. They can tell you a lot about a person; whether they are tired, upset, high (sorry… but true!), or whether they laugh a lot, get plenty of sleep or if they take care of themselves in general. And it’s no secret that women lust after having impossibly long and thick eyelashes (hello falsies) to frame those beautiful eyes. Just like the hair on your head, you have to take great care of your eyelashes if you want them to grow long without falling out. So here are some of my tips for eyelash care and growth.
Always wash off all eye makeup at night
This should go without saying, but for those of you that like to sleep in your mascara so that you wake up looking sort of like you did the night before… STOP! Just like you recharge when you sleep, so does your skin and the rest of your body. If there is a barrier around your eyelashes 24/7 they will never grow as long as you want them to. Not only does this keep your eyelashes from breathing it also can lead to many eye problems down the road (even some eye infections). So in other words… just wash your face.
Use a gentle eye makeup remover
I have lots of friends that use Vaseline to take off their eye make up at night. I prefer Garnier’s Nourishing Cleansing Oil. Anything that will be smooth and not irritate the eyes is what you need. Also by using something like Vaseline or oil you are also adding moisture to your lashes.
Use a gentle hair conditioner in the shower
Think of this as conditioning your hair, only the hairs happen to be tiny and around your eyes. However, you don’t want anything that is full of harsh chemicals and I would not recommend this every day just to be careful. This technique is there to condition (obviously) your eyelashes so that they will grow and stay in longer, leaving them soft and full.
Don’t go crazy with the eyelash curler
I use an eyelash curler every day so I’m not telling you to swear them off forever. What I mean is only use it if you feel like you need it and by all means DO NOT tug on your lashes. Simply press down but no pulling. This is just pulling out the hairs for no reason. I have also heard of women using heated eyelash curlers, which I tend to think is a bad idea. It may work in the sort run, but just like a flat iron damages your hair over time, I’m sure your eyelashes won’t be able to take the heat long either.
Use a Lash Serum
I think these are a fabulous idea and I’m surprised it took us this long to come up with these products. I personally like the L’oreal Paris Lash Serum because it’s cheaper than it’s alturnatives and seems to do the trick.
Basically what they do is help your lashes stay in for a longer period of time so that they have time to grow longer. The more lashes you have staying in, the thicker your eyelashes will be.
I know there are many other ways of doing things and various techniques that may work. These are just the ones that I do to help maintain my eyelashes. What are some other ways have you heard to keep your eyelashes healthy?
